Wicked Websites: Meebo - Web Instant Messaging
July 3rd, 2007 by Justin CarmonyWant to instant message whenever and wherever you want? Can’t install programs at school or work?
Meet Meebo.
About - Meebo Website:
Meebo.com is a website for instant messaging from absolutely anywhere. Whether you’re at home, on campus, at work, or traveling foreign lands, hop over to meebo.com on any computer to access all of your buddies (on AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber) and chat with them, no downloads or installs required, for free!
Alright, it has been a very, very long time since I’ve looked at a website, and my mouth just dropped in awe. I was looking around on-line for some Web 2.0ish layout ideas and color schemes, and I came upon Meebo. When I read what it did, I wanted to try it out immediately. When I logged into my MSN and AIM account, my mouth seriously dropped. The interface was extremely smooth, it really felt like I was using an application within a website. This website rocks.
You don’t even need a “Meebo” account to start using it, even though signing up is amazingly easy. This is the perfect solution for chatting online through a website.
I’ll be honest, I hate AIM. I absolutely despise it. I’m an MSN / Skype kinda guy. But my father is the CEO of a Linux company, and there is no way in hell he’d sign up for MSN and use it. I never could get Gaim to work well for me, and I never liked the Trillian interface. I would cringe when I needed to talk with my dad online and I had to install AIM. It was just… painful! Our CTO, Eric Ping, also shares my loathing for AIM. Before CEVO started to use Skype for day-to-day instant messaging and VoIP calls, we used AIM to talk with each other, and I couldn’t stand it. I couldn’t stand the advertisements, or the noises, and I didn’t want to go out of my way to modify my AIM to be nice.
Now with Meebo, I can use AIM whenever and wherever I want without installing crappy software. At work, our Firewall blocks all AIM traffic, but now I can use AIM at work through Meebo.
I’ve used other Web Based clients. Both MSN and AIM have an “web express” version. However I never liked their execution of either, and they require installations of Java apps or other extensions. Meebo requires ZERO installations: it just works.
I’ll stop blabbering on and on about Meebo so you can check it out, but I highly, highly recommend checking it out. For any gamer who is a student, Meebo is a must. Also, if you know of any cool websites or programs, give us a holler at devzone AT cevo DOT com.

It has been 2 long weeks since I had my surgery and I can honestly say that the sequence of events that immediately followed it, have been interesting to say
the least. Immediately after the procedure, while I was still in the hospital, I experienced chest pains and had to be monitored closely.
