Five Secrets to Success on Pipeline

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Out of all the maps in CoD4, mp_pipeline is probably both the most loved and most hated map.  Some teams seem to excel far beyond their expectations while others simply fall apart on this one sided map.  The debate whether Pipeline should even remain a competitive map goes back and forth, but with a limited supply of competitive stock maps available, it’s pretty much safe to say Pipeline will be sticking around for a little longer.  With that in mind, we’ve come up with five simple tips to help your team succeed on Pipeline.

Utilize Grenades

Too many teams do not use their grenades to their full potential on Pipeline, especially on offensive, which is tough enough already.  If everyone on your team does not use their secondary grenade (smoke or stun) on the offensive side of Pipeline there is a serious problem with your strats.  More often than not, you’re going to want everyone to take smoke grenades on offense to allow you to actually move around the map at the start of the round without getting picked apart from multiple directions.  This is absolutely essentially if your opponent is able to make the back B hanger building jump at the start of the round, otherwise your just letting him pick you off one by one down the street.  These cover smoke grenades are usually best thrown by players with Spec Ops because they are often the first to die rushing into a bombsite.  Some teams like to have their Spec Ops use flash grenades to take bombsites.  While this can work, Pipeline is a very open map and unless you know exactly where your opponents are playing flash grenades can be ineffective at times.

Call of Duty 4: Competitive Maps

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

A new year and a bright future reigns down on the Call of Duty 4 community as many teams start solidifying rosters and a set competitive rule set is formed. While a majority of the competitive rule set is pretty much agreed upon by most of the community, the maps to be played are a completely different story. Obviously each person has his/her own personal map preferences; however, the community still is torn on what maps should and shouldn’t be included in league competition. In CoD2, the maps played competitively were basically narrowed down to the ‘big five:’ Dawnville, Burgundy, Carentan, Toujane, and Matmata. These maps were considered the staple of competitive play, and while other maps were used, the biggest matches in CoD2 history all took place on one of these five maps. So what maps will stand out as CoD4’s ‘big five’?

Call of Duty 4 - The Beginning

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

It sure has been a while since the CoD community had something to look forward to. The last time I remember the community this active and involved was right before WSVG Dallas. Despite the doubts many had about all the pre-launch hype that surrounded Call of Duty 4, I think I can speak for anyone who has played it in saying it was well worth the hype. From top to bottom, single player to multiplayer Infinity Ward has really delivered. With the game being out about a month now, top teams are starting to emerge and the competitive community is starting to get a grasp on the best settings to be used in competitive play. The major issues that have been surrounding the community these past few weeks is the appropriate ruleset to use as well as speculation of the future of CoD4.
