Article By J.P. McDaniel

It’s that time once again to kick off another exciting season of Counter-Strike:Source CEVO-P play. This season, Season 7, we have the top six teams from last seasons playoff (Dallas Venom, Carolina Core, ‘94 Knicks, Devastation, x3o, and Zomblers) automatically being entered in. The other 10 teams will fight it out in the Counter-Strike: Source Season 7 - Professional Placement Tournament taking place this weekend. We have 15 teams advancing from group play which took place earlier this week. Below you can find a preview of 10 teams who possess the best chance of making it into CEVO-P.

#10 PK

My wildcard for the tournament has to be PK. With a 4-1 record in group play they are a relatively unknown team who seem to be putting up some fight in their matches. If any team could sneak by, this would be the team to do it.

#9 Vanskap

A veteran LAN team, Vanskap comes into bracket play hot off a really close match with Hyper earlier this week. Perhaps this team might be a wildcard for the weekend. Make sure to watch.

#8 CyberRevolution

CyberRevolution is a team who has bounced around in CEVO a lot. They played last season in CEVO-P under the team name FEVER and have been around a few seasons together. Expect this team to put up a fight against whoever they go against.

#7 New Era Gaming

New Era Gaming is new team into the Source community. They have come out with a strong presence perhaps due to the large ego Jarrod “REMiX” Shaw has created for himself in the community. With strong players such as Jimmy “nikon” Pike and Michael “deciple” Baker from the Guardians expect this team to do well this weekend.

#6 3D.NY

Another well known team, 3D.NY features three of the biggest names from 1.6. They’ve had kind of a rough time so far but this weekend might be their time to shine. In one of the most competitive groups in the tournament they posted a 4-1 record, only losing to the newly formed Skull Gaming.

#5 Hyper

Hyper, a team fairly well known in the Source community, is back with a semi-new team for this season. Pr0D, Shredder, and Daemos all return from the old team but bringing with them two new comers. So far in the group stage they are 4-1 losing only to PK, another 4-1 team in their group. We’ll see just how this team does this weekend.

#4 Skull Gaming

Skull Gaming, newly sponsored team previously known as Focal, aims to move up this season to CEVO-P. With new sponsors, do the CEVO-M champs have what it takes to move up to the big leagues? We’ll find out this weekend as they have done fairly well in the group stage posting a 4-1 record in one of the most competitive groups in the tournament.

#3 San Francisco Optx

Optx took a hard loss last year in the CGS World Final with a 4-8 match to Salvo. They have a lot to prove this year in the CS:S scene and getting into the CEVO-P league will be their first true test. So far so good in the group play too with a 5-0 record. The most rounds any team could put up against them was 8 from eX and Carnage. Expect to see Optx laying it out on the floor this weekend.

#2 Chicago Chimera

Chimera is most recently known for Corey “tr1p” Dodd opting to leave the team, being replaced by Lloyd “Shaffer” Shaffer from the free agent pool in CGS. This weekend Shaffer’s position on the team will be tested as they try to gain a spot in CEVO-P. Make sure to watch out for him this weekend as he could make or break the team.

#1 LA Complexity

You can never count a team like complexity out of any tournament. This crew knows what it takes to win and with an impressive performance earlier this month in the CS 1.6 finals, you can count on them putting in the hours to practice CS:S. With a 5-0 record in the group play, they will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with.
