1.6 Interview Series: Mob Gaming
September 9th, 2008 by CEVO|BassRecently CEVO had a chance to talk to Vincent from Mob Gaming about ESWC and his recent trade with Team EG.
Lets start with the most recent LAN tournament the team played in, ESWC Grand Finals. The team was only one of two American squads to make it to the second group stage. What was your team aiming for placing wise, and what do you believe was the main reason you did not advance any further in the tournament?
Placing wise, I am always looking to shock the world and pull out the big wins. I think we all went knowing we had to take it one round at a time and one game at a time. We came up short in the second group stage against Europe’s best, losing important pistol rounds combined with a slow start.
In a recent interview, Nick Fitzsimmons from x3o stated “[American CS teams] have definitely taken a step back since the DirecTV CGS was announced and the North American community split to play both Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike Source”. Fitzsimmons went on to discuss how without sponsorships, American teams are not able to travel and play against the best teams in the world, unlike many of the European teams who play each other on a weekly basis, gaining that much more practice and skill. What are your thoughts on both of these topics?
I think counter strike 1.6 has had a great year to date, with more to come. I believe both 1.6 and Source are able to thrive in this constant growing market . One can only hope more sponsors will invest in our American brands.
Currently you guys are sitting at a 12-4-0 record in the CEVO CS 1.6 Pro League, earning you the second place position. How has the season been so far for you guys? What do you think about the competition?
The season has been very competitive, with all the pro teams playing at a strong level. I am proud of my guys and can only hope to be on our A-game when the playoffs come into play.
If you had to predict first, second, and third place at the end of the season, who would it be?
Between MoB, EG and x3o its been a “any given Sunday” sort of year. With that being said, these teams plus others all have a chance for top 3.
In Week 4 of the league, you guys defeated rival team x3o in a 16-11 match. How important was this match for the team?
Anytime you can pull a win against x3o its a positive reinforcement that your on the right path. x3o has been performing amazing as of late, so one can only hope the trend continues.
The following week the team beat EG.usa, another powerhouse in the league. Can you talk about this match at all?
A win over Team EG is always a good thing. They represent a strong brand in professional gaming and anytime you can grab a win it adds momentum. We can only want this to continue under all the recent changes.
What do you think about the new EG line-up? Do you believe them to be stronger or weaker with their new player?
Its hard to say, Shaun is a great player and very capable of making EG stronger. It really comes down to team chemistry and how they mesh over the next few months.
With a loss against Frag Dominant early in the season, as well as a double overtime match against iPlay, many consider the teams fatal flaw to be underestimating the middle-tier teams. What do you have to say to this?
This statement may hold some truth to it, but I really believe we have had a tendency of not grabbing the early pistol round and starting off slow. We seem to be behind in the early rounds and sometimes its tough to get back.
It was just announced that there was a mutually agreed upon trade between MOB and EG, can you tell us a little about how this came to happen? Who initiated the initial offer and how did the players come to be selected by both sides?
I believe both teams were looking for roster changes. This change was not exactly what we had in mind and after talks with Alex of EG it was clear that the changes for both organizations were a great chance to jump start both teams back into a positive.
How do you think Evolution will fall in to the team chemistry that you already have built?
First off, Mat “Lim” is another great addition to MoB Gaming and should not be overlooked! Concerning Scott, I think evolution is a solid player and can adjust to his new team. I think the team is excited to adjust with Scott, as he brings a new play style to the table. As one of North America’s best AWPer’s, Scott’s play style is a one shot, one frag frenzy, combine that with unified teamwork and I think we have a winner.
