Celebrity Prediction: Win a Sapphire Graphic Card
July 24th, 2008 by CEVO|BassThe Counter-Strike Source Professional Playoffs begin this Saturday. CEVO will be running many promotions this weekend where you will have a chance at 1 of many Sapphire HD 3850 Graphics Cards. This will be your first chance to enter for one of those graphics cards. The contest is simple: Predict your upper bracket with scores and predict your final match up with final score and winner in the comments of this article. The person who has the most accurate prediction will win. If there is a tie or multiple ties the final score of the final match will be the first tie breaker and if there is still a tie we will go and look back one match at a time for the most accurate score until a winner is determined. * Note if your post is edited afterthe start of the playoffs on Saturday you will automatically be disqualified.
To show you how it is done we have some celebrity predictions provided by both Team 3D’s Dave “Moto” Geffon and Chimera’s Brian “dkt” Flander. Dave’s Predictions are in royal blue color and dkt’s are in a purple color.
Quarterfinals
Dallas Venom vs. x3o
MOTO: This matchup will be the 3rd time this season that these teams have faced off and while the record stands at 1-1 currently, I have to give the edge to the Dallas Venom. The Dallas Venom is coming off an outstanding CGS Season that saw them finishing first in the CGS Regular Season as well as first in the CGS Individual’s Championship.
The key to this match is going to be whether or not the Dallas Venom has been playing CS:S since they’ve been home from Los Angeles. I know most players generally need a break after several months of rigorous gaming and I wouldn’t be shocked if the Dallas Venom hasn’t touched CS:S since their elimination last week.
If Dallas is practiced up, ready and eager to play then they’ll take the win. If not, I could definitely see x3o taking this match away from them.
Dallas over x3o 13-9
dkt: These two teams met twice during the regular season. Dallas came away with a blowout win on contra the first time these two met. Later on, x3o managed to squeek out a win by 1 round on dust2. One thing I know about the Dallas Venom is that they play to win, under any conditions. They just had a demoralizing loss in the CGS World Finals, but I will still go with Dallas as the winner of this match.

Carolina Core vs. Devastation
MOTO: The most difficult thing about predicting any match with the Carolina Core is that you never know who’s going to show up. I’ve seen the Carolina Core play one match looking like arguably one of the best teams in the world — then I’ve seen them play and look absolutely uninspired and lost.Devastation on the other hand has been hammered all season long on Inferno and I don’t have any reason to believe that the results will drastically change. Devastation really needs to adjust whatever it is they’re doing on Inferno because it’s obviously not working, hopefully they’ve learned from their mistakes this season and are ready to give the Carolina Core a fight.
Carolina Core over Devastation 13-6
dkt: The Carolina Core are in the same position as the Dallas Venom. They just came off an extremely long season and a heart breaking loss to the Salvo. Devastation beat them once early in the season, however this was on de_season, a map that I don’t think was completely evolved at the time. However, Core took it to Devastation 13-2 on dust2 later in the year. I think the Core as a team right now might be in a bit of disarray, but if they show up to play they are just too highly skilled and will beat Devastation convincingly.

Semi Finals
MOTO: Zomblerz vs Dallas Venom
I think this is probably going to be the better of the two Semi Final matches as the Zomblerz are coming in on a 5 game win streak and a huge win against the Dallas Venom on de_contra. I’m leaning towards a Zomblerz victory but I suspect the game will be much closer than their previous match-up.
I think de_nuke really favors the Dallas Venom in this match-up because it was by far and away their best map throughout this past CGS & CEVO Season, which is why the match will be close, but the win will go to the Zomblerz. They’ve played too well and have too much momentum at the end of the season to drop this one.
Zomblerz over Dallas Venom 13-11
MOTO: Carolina Core vs. 94’ Knicks
While most people would probably give the nod to the Carolina Core here I think the 94’ Knicks are the obvious choice. The 94’ Knicks ended the CEVO season with an 8 game win streak taking down every playoff team along the way.
The Carolina Core to their credit have won both of their nuke matches this season but have been on and off over the past few weeks, though that’s probably due to the fact that they were focusing on the CGS World Finals.
The Carolina Core is a momentum team and if the 94’ Knicks let them build any, they might be in trouble but I think they should be able to hang on and win.
94’ Knicks over Carolina Core 13-10
dkt: Zomblerz vs Dallas Venom
In the next section of the playoffs we will see the Dallas Venom take on Zomblerz. Zomblerz really has the Venom’s # this year, beating them pretty badly the two games this season. I think if Zomblerz plays to their potential, the wear and tear of the CGS season is just going to have too big of an effect on the Venom.

dkt: Carolina Core vs. 94’ Knicks
The Carolina Core are an extreme forced be reckoned with on de_nuke. Unfortunately, for the 94 Knicks this is the map they will have to play the Core on. If the Core bring their normal, highly skilled game to the match, then 94 Knicks don’t even stand a chance. I think not only will the Core have momentum going into this game, but they are just too good at nuke to lose to the 94 Knicks.

Upper Finals
MOTO: Zomblerz vs 94’ Knicks
The Upper Finals isn’t going to disappoint as the two best teams from the CEVO Season will meet up in the Winners Bracket Finals. I went back and forth as to who I thought would win this match and after much deliberation I have to go with the Zomblerz.
I felt like on paper the 94’ Knicks had the edge with a longer win streak and two dominated wins on de_tuscan. The Zomblerz however are on a similar win streak witha few less wins, but have been beating most teams in a dominating fashion.
My decision came down to a gut check and I the Zomblerz have this in a close one.
Zomblerz over 94’ Knicks 13-11
dkt: Zomblerz vs Carolina Core
This will be a great match, but the only problem is that nobody knows how good Zomblerz are on tuscan. Both of their tuscan games were FF wins in week 6. I think the Carolina Core’s exprience on tuscan is going to out weigh anything Zomblerz can throw at them. However, Zomblerz has had the ability of being able to download all the CGS demos and matches of the Carolina Core, so unless the Core has some fresh stuff to bring to the plate, I think the game might be closer then previously thought. I’ll give Core the edge in this one, experience means too much in big games.
