Team Fortress 2 Strategy - The Scout
April 5th, 2008 by Graham ClayOverview:
The Scout is a quick and agile class that is useful for aggressive attacks and eliminating choice targets. Two good Scouts in a 6v6 match are a powerful combination…if they work together.
Weapons:
Scattergun – The Scattergun is the Scout’s shotgun that has six ammo rounds available prior to reloading. This shotgun is powerful against enemies that are close to the Scout; the Pistol is more accurate at longer ranges. Because of this, use your shotgun when you are close to an enemy. Use surprise and speed to close the distance between you and your opponent as rapidly as possible.
Pistol – The Scout’s pistol is a rapid-firing, 12-shot asset that is useful for finishing injured enemies and damaging those that are far away. It is valuable for ‘spamming’ a group of distant enemies and can ‘crit’ relatively hard (considering the number of shots fired before the crit sequence wears off).
Bat – The Scout’s melee weapon is a baseball bat. This bat is surprisingly viable in close-range combat due to the Scout’s speed; enemies have trouble turning around to fend off a speeding, batting Scout. Of course, the shotgun is a more reliable weapon at close range if your enemy can ‘achieve separation’. If your bat can’t reach ‘em, it’s over.
Strategies:
1. The most important attributes of the Scout class are speed and aerial acrobatics. A Scout runs at 200% the normal rate and can jump in any direction after already jumping in any direction (a double-jump). Use this speed and aerial ability to avoid enemy fire and to close the distance between you and your enemy.
2. One of the most important priorities for a Scout is killing certain classes. These classes include, but are not limited to, the Medic, the Demoman, the Sniper, and the Heavy. Typically, slower teammates have trouble ‘cornering’ these individuals and two Scouts chasing them down can make short work out them. In a match, eliminate the Medic and the other team is extremely disadvantaged.
3. On top of using speed and mobility to kill important people, the Scout has many other uses. These uses include defending Medics, Demomen, and Snipers against other Scouts, quickly capturing control points (the Scout counts as two people on a control point), and running a flag on a capture the flag (ctf) map.
Comments:
Playing Scout requires quick reaction times and quick decision times. Work on making tactical decisions faster and continue to practice your aim while moving; the more you practice, the more you will learn about how to handle challenging situations. Additionally, if you are working with another Scout in a match, communicate and work together.

Thanks very much for this article, there’s not much COD4 strategy publically available. Most of the time it comes down to watching a lot of demos/casts to pick up new tricks.
Something similar for Strike would be appreciated. Keep it up!

Fine blog. I got a lot of good data. I’ve been watching this technology for awhile. It’s intriguing how it keeps varying, yet some of the core elements stay the same. Have you seen much change since Google made their latest acquisition in the field?

I was studying something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your linear perspective on it is diametrically contradicted to what I read earlier. I am still contemplating over the opposite points of view, but I’m leaning heavily toward yours. And no matter, that’s what is so good about modern-day democracy and the marketplace of ideas online.

wow a lot of of the opinions most people enter are kinda silly, once in a while i think about whether they seriously read the articles or reviews and items before posting or if perhaps they basically read the title of the post and submit the first thought that drifts into their minds. nonetheless, it is really enjoyable to read clever commentary occasionally instead of the same exact, traditional blog vomit which i oftentimes notice on the net
