The College Gamer
March 25th, 2007 by Guest Contributor Matt JohansonClass, annoying roommates, and the pressure of a social life - the stresses and trials of a college student are enough to drive most people insane. Normal, well-liked, class-attending students have a hard enough time at school, but we aren’t “normal” people. We are the few and the proud. This is the secret life of The College Gamer.
There is one major factor which makes college suck - CLASS. Who really wants to sit through three hours of instruction every day? Besides the rigors of learning, we must contend with boring professors and brainless rules like no sleeping in class. Even this would be bearable if it wasn’t for the work. Boring teachers, no sleeping, and now we have tests and papers? Ridiculous!
Unlike normal students who might be able to manage this difficulty, we don’t have time for homework. We have video games to play! Besides the standard four hours a day of game time, think about release dates of high profile games. How many professors pushed back due dates for Gears of War or Splinter Cell Double Agent? What a blatant display of ignorance. This is Sam Fisher were talking about!
Success for us is measured not in GPA or friends we can touch/see, but in satisfaction and pride only a gamer can feel. Sure they have girlfriends but have they ever single-handedly beat Halo 2 on Legendary? Sure they can ace a midterm but have they ever aced a team of rushing terrorists? What do their girlfriends say when all they amount to is an easy knife kill at the next LAN? They might be the biggest and best on the football field but we’re not on the football field. This is our playing field and on the electronic playground The Gamer is King.
Despite appearances, The Gamer lives no easy life. The Gamer suffers from sleep deprivation and outrageous amounts of caffeine intake. The Gamer knows that he must take every opportunity to play today, for with tomorrow’s dawn comes another game and more newbs to own. Such is the circle of life.
So take heart fellow Gamers. Don’t let class and a lack of sleep deter you from what’s really important. Don’t forget the first time you dropped a 20 bomb. Don’t forget your dreams of making CEVO-P. And most importantly, don’t forget what it’s like to own newbs. This is what The Gamer was made for. This is what The Gamer does best. Until next time, game on!
